2 Part Lesson -- If you are basing on your knee trapped next your opponent's head and shoulder when placed inside the Deep Half Guard, leapfrog over into Reverse Half and implement a Back-Step Pass to escape your opponent's offense. If your weight is primarily distributed on the other knee, that is locked by your opponent's legs (aka Y-Guard), swing your free foot across your opponent's body to the opposite side and find an Underhook for the Leg-Over Pass. If your opponent is holding that leg tightly with his or her arms, create space by popping the opponent's forehead with the palm of your hand before swinging your leg. [04:46] You can also escape the Y-Guard by grabbing your opponent's elbow and pulling them onto his or her side to help clear your leg over. React quickly when placed in the Deep Half/Y-Guard Position; the longer you wait, the greater the chance that your opponent can take advantage of the Half Guard and find an attack.
