Lesson Part 1 of 2 -- Marcelo reviews his defense for the Straight Ankle-Lock: You must develop an unconscious reflex to sit up on top whenever your opponent falls back with your foot for a Leg-Lock. If you don't come up in time, immediately look to grab onto your opponent anywhere and pull them close; keep them away from leaning back against your instep and placing your ankle in hyper-extension. Base onto your knee with your free leg while still holding onto your opponent and look to clear their knee and foot away from shielding you back. Place the sole of your trapped foot directly onto the mat with weight so you can prevent your opponent from cranking on your ankle. Pass to the Mount Position or apply a Leg-Over into the Back-Step to solidify the top position as you escape the Straight Foot-Lock attempt.
