Marcelo helps Kanan strengthen his Back Control: If your opponent is escaping while you are setting your second/top hook for Back Mount (4-pts.), you may need to recalibrate how much effort you are expending towards isolating and immobilizing their hips with your bottom leg. Pinch your knees medially inward while even moreso, bringing your heel tightly against their inner thigh. This activation will help prevent your opponent from straightening out their leg and maneuvering it around your bottom hook, thereby giving you ample time to secure the secondary hook and scoring your points. Ideally, Marcelo prefers to keep one hook in while placing his opposite on the floor to help follow his opponent in transition. Additionally, leaving one leg free allows one to trap their opponent's arm, as opposed to the Body-Triangle (Anaconda, Salaverry, et al.) position, which offers greater stability at the cost of motility.
