Marcelo explains the synthesis of an effective Hook-Sweep from Butterfly: Disallow your opponent from gaining an Under-Hook when you go over their arm for control; tuck your elbow in tightly against your side when cupping their elbow/triceps. Press your opponent's arm inward towards their center-line rather than applying a traditional Over-Hook capture. Anytime you can control your opponent's arm while holding Butterfly-Hooks, you can start to sweep them in that direction (of their trapped arm). This can come from Elbow-Control, Wrist-Control, and even an Under-Hook & Head Control Clinch. If you snap on a Collar-Tie & Elbow Control setup for the sweep and your opponent is able to post out somehow, immediately reset and try the other side. Elevate your leg high by keeping your butt close to your hooks while maintaining an extension in your toes. Integrate all parts of your body in executing the sweep, making sure to throw your weight and keeping your core engaged throughout the movement.
