Marcelo describes the triplicate nature of his go-to Triangle Choke Defense for Nogi: Your opponent is oftentimes looking to accomplish three specific goals when attempting to finish a Triangle; (i) breaking your posture by pulling down on your head, (ii) crossing your arm passed center-line, and (iii) swiveling their hips toward the outside for a finishing angle. You must coordinate your defense such that you are always stopping all three problems. Prevent your opponent from crossing your inside-arm by connecting your hands together and posting onto their stomach. Create posture by swatting and clearing away any collar-ties on your head so that you can maintain a frame with your arms. Use your knee to block your opponent's hip from coming out towards the same side as your trapped arm. You may need to juggle through and reapply each detail repeatedly until you can maintain all three long enough for your opponent's legs to tire and eventually loosen up from the initial locking-on.
