Marcelo advises Kanan on how to properly re-attack from the Butterfly-Guard: If you encounter an opponent who happens to counter your butterfly-hooks mid-lift with heavy sprawling pressure and framing, you must train and develop the reaction of eliciting an immediate follow-up attack. Respond by recovering your posture and base before re-pummeling for control of the inside-space. This is an energy intensive activity, but it is critical to enact such an expenditure against an opponent who is ready to disarm any one-off attempts at breaking their balance for a sweep. Recompose yourself out from underneath your opponent's weight quickly before they have a chance to solidify an advantageous angle or grip. The faster you are at reacting to such a threat, the more likely you can chain together another movement that your opponent cannot readily anticipate and subsequently thwart. Instill this skill of continually digging for under-hooks so that you may pull your opponent forward and load them up onto your hooks for an improved attempt at a sweep. Prepare to do such especially on cue with opportunities following grip-breaking.
