North South Choke Details
Marcelo offers an intimate masterclass on many high-level aspects of the North/South Choke: Constricting your opponent's neck is a matter of timing, feel, and weight distribution; ideally, land on top in such a manner so that the bottom of your lat muscle connects to the side of their neck cleanly without any impedance from their jaw. Develop a sensitivity for how well you are locked around their neck, you may be able to adjust the choke by realigning their chin with your armpit and pec. Dive your delt down on top of their throat as you activate the entire closed kinetic chain of musculature in your arm for the throttling mechanic. If you are upside-down, hang your bodyweight off of your opponent's neck for the finish. You can hunt for the N/S submission from a number of interrelated positions, even from your opponent's attempt at a Modified Waiter-Sweep if it is open.
