Marcelo recounts a difficult shoulder-lock problem and its potential solution: When your opponent catches your arm inside an Omoplata (a.k.a. Coil-Lock, Sankakugarami, et al.) from Full-Guard, it is important to not let them gain even more control over your body; don't opt for the strategy of hunkering down in a kneeling position to stabilize your posture and prevent your opponent from rotating themselves around your arm. Patiently biding your time in the the lock may give your opponent the time to advance their control and seize an even greater advantage towards finishing the submission. Use your free hand to help control your opponent's foot and help relieve pressure away from your face while also planting your leg strongly against their inner thigh. Don't allow them to pummel their foot inside as a Butterfly-Hook that can then undermine your base and ruin your ability to effectively stand up. Firmly raise your torso vertically and slowly shake your elbow free from your opponent's legs until you can safely slip out of the submission attempt.
