Marcelo articulates the exact mechanism behind his entry for the Guillotine Choke: Counterintuitively, one should attack their opponent's head with your arm as if striking their neck rather than simply looping around it; when you anticipate an opening, snap your wrist against their throat as you cover up the back of their head to prevent escape. Quickly, connect your hands together and look to pass your elbow above their shoulder while securing the rest of their body with your legs. If you miss the gap under their chin for your wrist to fit inside, don't ruin your chance at successive attempts by traumatizing them into a heightened state of defense specifically against the choke. If you back off and look for a wider gap in their defense, you can oftentimes make key adjustments and land onto their neck with your wrist locked into the correct positioning for the finish. It is typically easier to ensnare their neck from above, since your arm has the free space to slap down and hood over their head; however, you can still catch the choke from the bottom but with proper timing and/or a collar-tie snap-down.
