Marcelo shows how he handles countermeasures against his Single-Leg X-Guard: If your opponent attempts to dismantle the configuration of your One-Legged X-Guard; 1-Leg X (a.k.a. Anaconda-Guard, Sucuri, Noose, Foot-Lock Guard, Standard-Ashi, Slash-Guard, et al.) by maneuvering your legs out of alignment, meet the resistance swiftly with a destabilization and then a recompositing of your guard. If they remove your foot from their hip, quickly pummel your heel back in front while performing an off-balance backwards with your inside knee (i.e. Reverse Butterfly-Hook, High R-Guard Top-Hook, Short-Cross, et al.); if they try vaulting over the top of your inside-knee by pommeling it with both of their hands, create a barrier against their hip with your free-hand and quickly snap back around their ensnared leg. If they happen to settle their weight forward across your hip-line with their knee touching the mat, maintain your posting stiff-arm against their hip and apply a hip-escape to create enough space to drive your knee back inside and to return to an offensive position. If your opponent tries to Back-Step (Reverse Half-Mount, Negativa, Capoeira-Pass, et al.) out of your hold, and you also miss the chance to block them or catch a ride with your inside-hook, place a strong stiff-arm against their hips to help keep distance while you work up on top; don't allow them to land safely and settle into a stronger top-control.
