Aoki-Lock Defense
Marcelo counters a foot-lock that is gaining in popularity amidst competitors who are willing to skirt the rules in the gi: If your opponent attacks your ankle by hugging around it with an over-hook, quickly slip your foot free heel first before they have a chance to lock down on your leg. However, if your opponent manages to bite down onto your toes before you can escape your entire foot, avoid letting your opponent crank on your leg while in such a compromised, and questionably legal position. Use your free foot to help kick your opponent's grip open as you spin out of the hold and clear yourself from danger.
