Closed-Guard to Butterfly-Guard, Breaking Gi-Grips from Butterfly, 1Leg X-Guard Entry
Marcelo & Adam help Jon troubleshoot a situation based on a previous super-fight: Placing your feet on your opponent's hips is an important aspect of distance-making, particularly when you are attempting to break your opponent's grips in order to secure your own control. Ideally, keep your knees in front to help shield your opponent from passing when you go to make distance with your feet on their hips. Depending on how much time you have to work, some things can be augmented by taking extra steps to secure better long-term control, e.g. if you have time, break your opponent's grips in such a way that you control their sleeve with a Pistol-Grip afterwards rather than just holding it with a paw. If you need extra extension when you push your opponent away to strip their grip, make sure to use both of your feet on their hips and have your toes connect with your foot in plantar flexion to maximize your reach.
