In response to the well-thought-out requests of several of you, we have made research much more intuitive. In addition to the old search options, every video is now accessible through a tree of techniques. To view the extent of the tree, we encourage all of you to play around with it a bit -- just hit the Expand All Folders button at the bottom of the Browse All Techniques drop down to familiarize yourself with the system. Then hit Collapse All and open a line of research up by hitting "+" signs as you work your way down through the tree.

In general, we have categorized videos by: 1) Position; 2) Whether we are on top or on bottom (or sometimes, when more appropriate, whether we are attacking or defending); 3) The nature of the technique -- i.e., Controls, Sweeps, Submissions, etc.

The tree is extremely easy to use, and you always have the option of being more or less specific in your search -- if you hit on the "+" button at any point of the tree, you will see the next level of categorization. The "-" button obviously does the reverse. And if you just hit on the more general title next to the number of videos available, for example "Butterfly (483)" you will see all the videos at that level of the categorization (divided, as before, into Instructionals, In Action, and Sparring Sessions). Any time you move from the tree to a collection of videos, where you are in the tree will be highlighted and stay visible on the right side of your screen so you can continue research where you left off.

You will also notice that we have changed the name of the tab that was called Techniques to In Action as this is really the essence of the research side of this site -- the ability to weave between theory (lessons taught by Marcelo) and clips of him executing that particular technique In Action.

Finally, we have simplified the exploration of videos related to the one you are watching. Now, when you watch a video that has more than one technique in it, to the right of the video screen you will see a list of possible avenues of research under Research Suggestions. The videos under each of these carousels are organized by technique and broken into Instructionals and In Action. Again, this is extremely intuitive, we just wanted to give you a heads up about the new features that are available.

As always, we are hard at work on new updates and would love to hear your feedback. If you have any ideas to improve the MGInAction.com experience, please let us know.

Sincerely,
The MGInAction.com Team

Website Update - 02/12/2010

Dear Members of Marcelo Garcia In Action,
Just a quick note about some updates we recently posted to the site.

1) You may have noticed the Training Database now has a Discussions tab. The videos here are informal discussions between Marcelo and his students in which Marcelo responds to questions, describes his principles, and opens up his game by diving into ideas that organically emerge on the mats. These are impromptu moments and sometimes the audio will not be as clear as it is in the more formal Instructionals, but we want to give you as much access to the laboratory as possible-some extremely valuable ideas will emerge in these conversations. Marcelo will also be responding to forum questions under this tab.

2) We have added some important updates to the My Page which will increase your ability to customize the site. If you click on Website Preferences you can choose whether or not you want to see all the technique tags that are embedded in a video. Those of you who are doing detailed research may want to see these tags, while users who just want to watch Instructionals and Sparring sessions without diving into a specific line of investigation may prefer to have the less detailed, cleaner view. Your call. Over time we will be adding more options for customization under Website Preferences.

3) We have added a Recently Viewed Videos button on the My Page which will allow you to quickly access the last 100 videos you watched... just to make review a bit easier.

As always, we are working hard on the site and are wide open to suggestions so please let us know if there is anything we can do to make MGInAction.com a better training tool for you. In the next couple weeks we will be updating the Training Database with a new navigation system that will make research much more fluid.

Sincerely,
The MGInAction.com Team

Website Update - 01/26/2010

Dear Members of Marcelo Garcia In Action,

Just a quick note to let you know that as of today the My Page feature is up and running on MGInAction.com. By simply clicking on the "+" sign on the lower right hand side of each video icon, you can add a video to your favorites. You can then click "-" at any time to remove a video from your collection. Your personal library can be categorized by folder (as many as you want), so in addition to our database system you can organize your study materials however works best for your learning style. Videos can easily be moved between folders if you decide to restructure your library at any time, so have fun experimenting with it—the My Page system is quite intuitive and very easy to use.

As usual, we are wide open to suggestions. We hope you have been enjoying the site and want to let you know about the exciting new player we just added.
First of all, the new player will be tremendous for close study and detailed research. Now (whether you are watching in normal or full screen mode) you can zoom in and watch at varying speeds of slow motion. Also, for those of you who are taking advantage of our database driven research functionality, the capability of opening up videos as a pop up or new window will help with watching many examples of a technique without scrolling backwards. Please fool around with the 3 ways of watching any video and see which you prefer (the icons are just below each video image).

Our team is hard at work on several other updates including the My Page feature which will be active soon and will give you the ability to collect favorite videos, make playlists, etc. We will also be putting up a discussions tab that will include Marcelo's technical and psychological conversations after class, and his responses to your forum questions.

Finally, we don't want to ruin the surpise, but in a couple months we will be launching a feature that will blow your mind (we are patenting and programming it now). Please know that our team is constantly working on improving the site and we are wide open to your suggestions. If you have any thoughts about how to make MGInAction.com a more effective study tool, just post them on the forum under "Website Suggestions" and we'll consider them closely.

Sincerely,
The MGInAction.com Team
