Spin Retention vs Back Step → Takedown from X Guard
2 Part Lesson — Marcelo maintains the X-Guard for the sweep: [I] Rattle your opponent's base every time you sense they are planning to make a move; extend and retract your X-Hooks as well as turning and tamping his lead knee. If he swings backward, keep your hooks strong and stay connected throughout the spin. Keep your head tucked in to avoid pressure on your neck. If you lose his trail leg with your hooks, regain control with your bottom hook by extending your leg and catching his thigh for control. [II] If your opponent tries to grab your hooks, immediately defend against the grip by seizing his arm. If you gain control of the farther arm, simply dump him forward onto his shoulder for the sweep. If he postures back up to avoid you grabbing his sleeves, knock him backward with your hooks. If he leans away so that you cannot capture either hand, note to execute the Take-Out-The-Trash Sweep by launching him back and standing up with a Tree-Top Single. Keep his leg turned up onto your shoulder to avoid him kicking out of this Takedown Sweep.
