3 Part Lesson — Marcelo counterattacks with a Russian 2-on-1: Invite your opponent to grab a Collar-Tie while kneeling against your Butterfly Guard to set-up the Hook Sweep from Butterfly. As long as you don't allow the opponent to combine the control on your head with offense from their free hand; e.g. Snap-Down Guillotine, Guard-Pass, et cetera, you can take adcantage of a predictable forced reaction. Shrug the arm off of your neck and hold the elbow onto your chest with two underhanded grips on the wrist and behind the elbow on the triceps. When your opponent tries to rip back their elbow back toward their own body, use the connection with their base to help launch yourself into a Collar & Elbow Hook Sweep from Butterfly Guard. Slide your leg in between the opponent's knees to load your other leg as a hook and club over top of the shoulder/neck with an overhand Collar-Tie of your own. Remember to defend the near inside space against the underhook when you arrive on top; try to withdraw your elbow back out from the (nogi) Collar Control and pummel for an Underhook to establish the position. [II] If your opponent pulls upward rather than backward to defend against your Russian-Tie off of their Collar-Tie, fill the void under his arm with an Underhook to help pull their weight into a Hook Sweep. [III] Make sure to hold the 2-on-1 tightly to set-up the reactions. This particular sequence is for when an opponent is hunkered down in Seiza or Kiza (seated kneeling positions) rather than wide open in a Combat-Base or Kyoshi. Otherwise one might conceivably be able to convert the Russian Tie directly into a sweep, e.g. a Double Hook Sweep.
