2 Part Lesson — Marcelo demonstrates his unique variation of the classic "Esgrima" Pass versus Half Guard: Launch forward like a missile and fence/pummel an Underhook against your opponent's Open Guard after you have split the legs and can step one leg around to the outside. Drive your weight forward, connecting your chests, until you can shift onto the inside of the near-side arm and claim an Overhook; this detail is where the technique gets its current namesake of "Over/Under Pass" (not to be confused with Bernardo Faria's Over/Under "Frying Pan" Pass from Miragaia). Face away, keep your hips low, and bring your outside knee close to your elbow so that you may place the sole of your foot directly on top of your opponent's bottom knee. Use this unique foothold to extract your knee out of the opponent's Half Guard enough to cross outside and establish a pin. [05:24] If your opponent correctly replies to your drive forward with a properly inserted Frame against your neck, secure the Half Mount position and deflect the frames off of your upper body to clinch closely. Control under the head and connect your hands together around the opponent's shoulders; if they give up the Underhook, take it and transform back to the original plan of Over/Under Control. Otherwise, proceed with the pass using the 'Cross Arm Under Hook and Head' Control to keep your opponent flat while you work your leg free from the Half Guard.
