2 Part Technique - The underhook is a crucial aspect of control for hook sweeping from the half guard. The success of your underhook is reliant upon your ability to close the distance between your upper bodies. If the opponent realizes this and begins to posture away from your underhook, quickly capture his head for Underhook and Head Control to break his posture back down. Insert your second butterfly hook and remove his arm from the mat by lifting up your elbow with your grip, similar to how we finish for the guillotine choke. Lift him up, extend your hooks, and kick him over into mount to the finish the hook sweep. If he is taller than you and he can block this sweep by posting his feet onto the mat, lay onto your side and use your foot to stomp on top of his knee to remove his base. If you cannot successfully land into the mount position, choose either knee on belly or even half guard on the opposite side of your underhook and head control.
