4 Part Technique - According to Marcelo, you do not have to spend a significant portion of your training time learning takedowns in order to be successful in competition. Since you will always have the option of pulling guard, all you need in your arsenal are a few solid takedowns, such as a the Single Leg. A major part of getting onto the single will be footwork; use a strong collar grip to swing your opponent into the stance that best sets up your shot. If you encounter trouble running the pipe for the finish, grab onto his skirt or belt and trap his leg with the Pumhandle Gi Grip. Now, you'll be able to dedicate a free hand onto his collar again to break his posture and help drag him down to the mat.
