1 Part Technique — Paul teaches how to properly utilize the Bridge to open up enough space for Guard Recovery after an opponent has gained the Side Mount with Underhook & Head Control. Bring your elbows in out of danger by bridging away to clear your farside arm, and bridge toward your opponent to hide your nearside arm from his hip. If you cannot turn your head to hip escape and unlock your shoulders, cup the bicep of his Crossface with your nearside hand to gain the space before performing the Foot Wipe Escape. Remember to cut your knee high into his shoulder to maximize the distance you can create by raising your hips off the mat. If you cannot cup the bicep, push the head away and pummel your near-hand inside for the Frame Escape. If you cannot push the head away, punch overhead as you spin your legs away, coming up on top in Front Headlock with the Sit-Out Spin.
