3 Part Lesson — Marcelo ends his series on Kumi-Kata with several solutions to commonplace scenarios: {I} Entice a reluctant opponent into Hand-fighting by grabbing onto his collar and waiting for his reaction; if he mirrors your control, grabbing onto your collar also, break it off and make 2on1 Control; if he tries to strip away your collar grip, intercept his sleeve as he reaches for your hand and then form the 2on1. {II} However, if your opponent plays with an opposite lead, he may try to reach over or under your collar grip to form his own on the same side. Prevent him from making this grip by warding away his advance with your elbow. If he reaches over, wing your elbow high to deflect his grip; if he goes underneath, dip your elbow low to protect your collar as you drag him around until you can find his sleeve for the 2on1. {III} Uncommonly, if your opponent possesses the ability to remove your collar grip with only one hand, or if you sense your grip loosening, supplement your control by reaching over the top of his opposite shoulder and hanging off of a high grip for a takedown or sweep set-up.
