Marcelo speaks on the “Scramble” of Nogi as it pertains to training in the Gi.
Most effective approaches in Nogi require a string of many techniques because of the slipperiness, unpredictability, and multiple possibilities that can enfold while attacking. The more you can take advantage of the "Scramble" and chain together attacks with speed and confidence, the more likely you are to succeed. However, it is important to remember the other side of the coin: the ability to slow down the fight and hold the opponent down in a dominant position on command. These two opposite but complementary strategies are an important aspect of success in grappling. Learning to stabilize a position is trained often while wearing the Gi; which is precisely why it is crucial to train with the kimono to balance your speed in Nogi.
