4 Part Lesson — Marcelo explains how to generate flexibility with speed: [I] Bait your opponent into reaching for your wrist to gain the 2on1; but, if he doesn't take it, place your hand on the cross-side shoulder and wait to ensnare the 2on1 when he tries to remove your arm. Make sure to hold the 2on1 by pinching into the joint of the elbow, not the muscle of the triceps. Scoot forward, lift with your hooks, and let him settle down into your X-Guard for the sweep. [II] If your opponent crosses his ankles around your Butterfly Hooks as you lift him into the air, cross-release the 2on1 and begin untangling his feet with your hands. If you can't reach his feet immediately, block his arm from squaring back up with you latch onto his feet to assemble the X-Guard. [III] If your encounter difficulty unraveling his feet, deepen your bottom leg underneath and whip it onto his hip. Continue uncrossing his ankles as you use your foot to push him away once you make it onto his hip. [IV] Utilize the momentum of swinging your leg to generate the flexibility necessary to make your heel fit onto his hip. This method is the same used for setting in your hooks from Seated Back Ride; whenever you need hip flexibility in a position, try increasing the speed of your leg motion to help fight the resistance.
