3 Part Lesson — Marcelo teaches some advanced Hand-Fighting skills: [I] Avoid letting your opponent grab your collar. Knowing this, your opponent may follow up his initial grab with his second hand reaching out to preoccupy your defense while he reaches again for his first grip. You will be able to deal with this tactic as long as you block the second hand crossing the inside, not blocking from inside out. If you parry to the outside, you will not be able to reach his third grab before it settles. Blocking across from the outside-in will prepare you to break off his grip and form 2on1. Knock-Out, Knock-In, Break to 2on1. [II] If your opponent makes the grip, apply both hands to his wrist/sleeve and yank it off as you backpedal against his pull forward. [III] Anytime you lean away, prepare to pick your leg up off the mat before he can attack with a Footsweep. The trip can come from the inside or outside; just pick your foot up before he can stick to your ankle.
