2 Part Technique - You must always place your head on the opposite side of your choking arm to prevent the opponent from putting his back to the mat to escape. It can be very difficult to use the Rear Naked Choke if the opponent holds your Seat Belt Control and hands. Instead, control his hands first to create the opening for the choke. Use his shoulder blade as a temporary hold and continue to dig with your wrist as a wedge under his chin for the submission. If the opponent breaks the hold before you can secure the choke, wrap your arm around his forehead and pull to expose his neck.

That is definitely a trachea crush.

"Straight back" and leverage your elbow back as you pull with the gable grip, it's against his throat. Btw, when he uses his fingers gripped to stay put without connecting his hands, it generates so much leverage and works wonders. I especially use it to finish with a choke in the crucifix position while I have wrist control and his arm triangled with my legs.
