2 Part Technique - When the opponent is very defensive in Side Control, force the opponent to react and open up by using the Knee on Belly. If he pushes at your knee to escape and doesn't reveal any opening for an Armbar, pull at his elbow to set him on his side for the Spiral Armbar instead. A strong opponent might be able to keep his back on the mat to resist the submission, so use a Knee on Belly to Mount variation. Instead of forcing your knee over like a normal Knee on Belly to Mount, swing your leg over in the opposite direction and sit into postion.
