3 Part Lesson — Marcelo explains his Kumikata for Shimewaza: [I] Control your opponent's hands first to ensure that you maintain both a head-start as well as a short-cut to his collar/lapel. You must develop this skill with increasing speed and precision until you are comfortable performing this movement reflexively. Once you've pulled the collar across the throat, you can finish with either Erijime, Katahajime, or the Bow-N-Arrow Choke. [II] If your opponent manages to make a grip on your hand or on the collar above your grip, you must peel it off and continue on toward the finish. Depending upon which hand is used to stifle your choke, you will either have to peel off his grip from the outside or inside of the wrist. [III] If for some reason your opponent makes a firm grip on his collar which prevents you from creating the choke, use both hands to rip off his grip from his jacket and start again; but this time, with the intention of cleaning up and quickening your process.
