3 Part Lesson — Marcelo counters attacks from inside Closed Guard: [I] If you can prevent your opponent from securing the 2on1 Control by smacking off his hand before he can settle his grips, you are much better off in the long run. However, if your opponent manages to find his grips, quickly feed his sameside lapel into the hand of your trapt arm as a counter grip to his 2on1 pull. [II] If your opponent gets as far as crossing your arm with the 2on1 and he begins climbing around your back, take your free arm and crossover to his far shoulder, making a grip there to keep him flat on his back. [III] If your opponent traps your shoulder and begins looking for an Armbar from High Guard, take a step and capture his hip, bringing him back square to your base. Wiggle your shoulder forward through his legs to help prevent the attack too.
