2 Part Lesson — Marcelo avoids the threat of Toreando Passing against his Seated/Butterfly Guard by closing the distance with an under-utilized form of control: [I] If your opponent disengages away from your 2on1 Control and Underhooks, immediately bring him or her back onto your hooks before he or she can grab your pants to pass. Accomplish this by grabbing for a collar coupled with an underhanded grip on his belt. Use this control to pull him or her directly into an Elbow Control Hook Sweep. [II] If your miss the Elbow Control to deny the post against the Butterfly Sweep, or if you pull him or her too far over your hooks, develop your guard further into Single Leg X after the Hook Lift. Keep the Underhand Belt Grip as you allow the opponent's leg to slide down off of your Butterfly Hook.
