Collar Control from Standing > Pumphandle Gi Grip from Standing > Single Leg Takedown
6 Part Lesson -- Marcelo professes on a grappling takedown unique to the sport of BJJ: The setup for the Single Leg Takedown with the gi jacket relies heavily on the development of centrifugal force; lock up Collar & Elbow with your partner and get a feel for the rotation necessary to prepare for a shot. [01:52] Grab your opponent's collar and force the spin while defending the opposite side from grips. Drop to your near-side knee to avoid an Uchimata, and grab your opponent's leg. Continue spinning as you hang off of the collar to help force the opponent down to the mat. [05:09] If you need more time on your feet to work the Single, feed the opponent's lapel under the leg for a Pumphandle Grip. Run-the-Pipe and switch back off to yanking down on the collar grip like before. [07:25] If circling and hanging on the collar doesn't force the opponent to the mat, work back to Running-the-Pipe to find the off-balance for the Single. [09:02] If your opponent posts his or her hand to the mat to defend the Single, grab the sleeve before your next attempt to prevent the counter. [10:55] Don't let your opponent know you want to grab the sleeve to prevent a post; simply gather up control of the arm as you rise back up for the next attempt.
