2 Part Lesson -- Marcelo retains his Seatbelt Control: Once you've captured your opponent's back by fastening the Seatbelt (Harness, Over/Under with Ball-n-Socket Grip), you must exercise discipline in keeping the advantageous position; particularly, when your opponent attempts to escape by rolling away from your base. Ideally, this circumstance can be remedied by vaulting across to the opposite side where you can then scoop underneath the opponent's hips and find your hooks for Back-Mount. However, if you miss the opportunity to dive below in time to stop the far hip from touching the mat, you must be ready to roll through and arrive back on top. Use the momentum generated by your opponent's escape to help roll him or her across your chest with a bridging movement. Developing confidence in this micro-transition is especially important when your opponent outweighs you by a significant margin. [03:53] If you miss the opponent's hips but happen to set your nearside hook (weak-side, top-leg) after the initial roll, you can use it to help pull your opponent over to a strong-side Seatbelt Control.
