High Leg Over vs X Guard Takedown Sweep
2 Part Lesson -- Marcelo comments on the effectiveness of Joga-fora-no-Lixo and how to counter it: Kneeling above your opponent while they have your legs split apart is an unstable place to stay; immediately look to transition to a more superior position to pass the Deep Half Guard (or X-guard, Y-Guard, Split-Guard, et al). If your knee that is closest to your opponent's head is down on the mat, apply the Sit-Over passing transition into the Back-Step/Reverse-Half. If your other knee down, the one closest to the opponent's legs, you can try to hit the Leg-Over Pass before they sit-up for a sweep. If they begin to rise, you must stand up faster. Slow your opponents down and create space for your leg to slip off of their shoulder by pushing down on their head. [04:01] Don't place your hands on the mat when trying to escape from the Joga-fora-no-Lixo (taking out the trash; tree-top single-leg takedown) Sweep; you need to have both hands free to help push your opponent's head down and free your foot.
