Breaking Gi Grips from Standing > Escape vs Foot Sweep
2 Part Lesson -- Marcelo counters strong Judo skills: Survive the barrage of off-balance your opponent may dole out on the feet if they are competent with standing grips. Try to avoid a Collar Grip in the first place by swatting away your opponent's arm as they reach. If they make it to your collar, use both hands to smack away the grip while you backpedal. If they set the grip, make a grip on the sleeve and/or wrist and yank their hand away; if they have your elbow, spin your torso away but quickly return to face them. Be wary of a Footsweep when breaking the grip. Keep your feet ready to take a step for recovery. [04:44] When you disconnect from your opponent's control, answer back with a Single Leg Takedown.
