2 Part Lesson -- Marcelo takes a risk of going forward to keep the reward of bottom position: If your opponent is kneeling against your Butterfly Guard (Seated Guard, Open Guard, Upright Guard, Sit-Up Guard, et al.) and they are keeping you at a distance behind their hands, you need to pressure forward. Butt-scoot aggressively until you can get a grip and pummel for any connection to your opponent's upper body while retaining your Butterfly-Hooks. Use the control to execute a Butterfly Hook Sweep or Hook Lift to transition into another attack. If your opponent is farther away, you may post a single hand behind you to help propel you forward, but be quick to bring it back to help defend once you are in range. [06:05] If your opponent stands up to evade your Butterfly Guard, scoot forward and force them into revealing their intentions of stalling or disengagement to the referee. Track your opponent hands with yours and if they set their lead leg within reach, be ready to gain Single Leg Control for a Takedown/Sweep or for pulling into Single Leg X-Guard.
