Marcelo and Savannah help Hana with her Guillotine-Choke from Half-Guard: Whenever you are trying to finish a Guillotine-Choke from a guard position, first make sure your opponent cannot immediately defend by passing towards the side that allows their head to surface; pattern your legs into any configuration that will block them from obtaining a cross-body alignment that places their head on the opposite side of their legs. This can be accomplished in the form of a Half-Guard; e.g. Half-Butterfly, Lock-Down, et al., but be aware of your opponent's need to close the distance and place pressure against your choke. Use your legs as frames against your opponent's hips to help extend them away while squeezing their neck. If you cannot find the tap without expending too much energy and possibly gassing out your arms, seek an improvement in position before attempting to finish. If you find yourself with your opponent's arm inside the choke and also trapped across your body, it will make for a much more successful attempt than when their arm is inside but not helping compress their neck.
