Marcelo talks about placing counter-defensive frames against his opponent when finishing the Guillotine-Choke from bottom position: Keep your elbow elevated and shelved on top of your opponent's shoulder to help maintain space; erecting this barrier is critical for nullifying any forward pressure that could potentially jeopardize your ability to stretch away and apportionately throttle the strangling technique. This is particularly the case when attempting to finish it from the Closed-Guard, and/or if you have reach advantage and need extra room to cinch tighter around their neck with long arms. If your opponent is outside of your Closed-Guard and on top when your are applying the choke, make sure to secure your shin across their belly to help prevent them from closing the distance and stacking up into the Guillotine for defense.
