Marcelo advocates for a strong combination of passes from the standing position: Remember to block your opponent from getting their foot set in front of you after you've established Knee-Mount by keeping your elbow-knee connection tight on that side; maintaining a lowered profile and shielding your chest and shoulder with your head and elbow from their lasso-style recovery will at least buy you enough time to dismount and win an Under-Hook for Side-Control. If you miss the opportunity to pummel for an Under-Hook and your opponent begins turning onto their side to fight for a Single, run around to the opposite side to continue your attack. Keeping your opponent flat on their back with their hips pointing away from your angle of attack is a helpful component of mitigating their ability to recover with a High-Leg Over (a.k.a. Foot-Wipe, Lasso, et al.); redirect your opponent's knee with your hand to test their posture for vulnerabilities. Oftentimes, you can push their knee all the way towards the opposite side of your intial passing direction into a Folding Pass.
