2 Part Technique - Prevent the opponent from circling to your back in half guard using a Front Headlock control. It is not the first option you want, but is needed under these circumstances. Turn to your hip and pass like a Turning Pass with your new control. After the pass, immediately secure Under Hook and Head Control in Side Control to stabilize the position. If the opponent is able to scramble to his knees, circles your legs away before he can control them, and control the traditional Front Headlock. Taking the Back should always be first on your mind from the Front Headlock.
