Marcelo discusses with some of his students where he attacks the throat when an opponent defends the Rear Naked Choke by tucking his chin in and turning his face away. Target the thinnest part of your wrist bone directly under his chin from the front -not the side. This approach works if he has his chin tucked tightly with or without turning his face away. Once under the jawbone, elevate your elbow as you slide across his neck for the regular finish, or immediately clasp the gable grip for the straight choke finish. Marcelo will peel back the forehead while holding his opponent's wrist and trapping his arm with a hook, but only if he attacking from the seatbelt on his choke-hand side, his right side. It's better to develop one strong side for choking rather than have two mediocre sides.
