To gi, or not to gi?, that is the question. Cliché? Yes, but it is still quite a controversial topic amongst grappling practitioners today. Marcelo's stance on this is clear: Train both. If you make a mistake while wearing the kimono, chances are you are going to pay for it dearly, so you will need to develop a greater alertness to danger. In nogi, grapplers often rely too much on slipping out of their mistakes, which can lead to passiveness and a false sense of security. It is better to gain the benefits from each style, than to lose out on the advantages of training in just one discipline alone.
