2 Part Technique — Marcelo teaches his class the Brabo Choke, a gi-assisted submission that closely resembles the D'arce Choke in nogi techniques. Starting from Side Control with your opponent laying on his side, cover over the top of his arms while still defending against his attempts for an underhook. Overhooking his top arm, insert your hand into his gi, grabbing onto the collar by his neck. Use your other hand to pull his top arm straight as you lay your weight through his shoulder and into your choking hand. If necessary, insert your other hand into his gi on the other side of his neck to clamp both sides of his neck for the choke. If he defends the first grip by grabbing onto his own collar, feed his topside lapel behind his back as a replacement for the collar grip.
