3 Part Lesson — Marcelo explains how to deal with an opponent with strong Single Leg Defense: [I] If your opponent attempts Sumigaeshi against your Single Leg Takedown attempt, quickly spread your weight as flat as possible on top of his hook to prevent the sweep and look for the Folding Pass. [II] If your opponent tries to Reverse Hook Sweep you after you sprawl, or if you end up getting thrown by the Sumigaeshi, hold onto the Single and flip over in a bridge; driving your shoulder into his belly until you can turn back over and claim the top position. [III] Avoid grabbing the opponent's hip when holding the single, especially if he or she has a good Hip Throw or Leg Trip. It much safer to pinch the opponent's leg between your knees as a straight pipe.
