Guard Recovery vs Body Lock from Side, Hook Sweep from Butterfly, Underhook & Head Control Short Hook Sweep from Butterfly Guard
2 Part Lesson — Marcelo conveys the importance of Sitting Upright for Side Guard: [I] As your opponent tries to secure his position outside of your guard, if you lay back flat, you make it easier for him to establish Side Control; if you turn away to avoid the pass, you expose your back for the taking. Remain postured up after he beats your legs and keep him away from your far shoulder by building a frame on his neck and head with a Collar-Tie. Continue circling away from the Back-Take and insert your bottom hook for Butterfly Recovery by grape-vining his leg to open space. Once both Butterfly hooks are reset, claim an underhook for the Hook Sweep. [II] If your opponent tries to back out of your control after recovering your guard, clamp down with Underhook & Head Control, elevate his elbow with your underhook, and kick out his knee for a Short Hook Sweep to Mount.
