2 Part Lesson — Marcelo shows how to use the Front Headlock to Take-the-Back: [I] If your opponent happens to capture your leg from the Turtle into Half Guard while you're holding onto a Front Headlock, use your free leg to kick yourself free for the pass; when he tries to recapture the Half Guard, step over the top of his leg, pick his back/side up off the mat, and switch for the Seatbelt with Back Hooks. [II] If while attempting to pass the opponent's Half Guard by wedging your shin against his legs, the opponent manages to roll to the top--you must avoid letting him escape to the side, dis-empowering your Front Headlock. Insert your Butterfly Hook and elevate as necessary from ¾ Guard to prevent him from jumping to your side. Hip escape and use your hook to throw him off so you can get back on top and avert the mistake. Knee Slide away from his guard and either take the Crucifix or sit him back into your Hooks.
