3 Part Lesson — Marcelo teaches us how to properly cover the Back against a roll: [I] Starting from the Seatbelt Position against your opponent's Turtle Guard, you have to be ready to hop over to the opposite side and land on the mat before your opponent can establish his roll away from your control. Keep tight and dive over, catching the opponent's hips on your lap; continue the roll until you land on the "Over" side of your Seatbelt (Over/Under) Control. [II] As a drill, lay back-to-back on your partner and when you spin to grab the Seatbelt, this signals your partner to start his roll. This will help you develop the sensitivity and timing that is necessary to keep control when you find the Seatbelt Position. [III] If your opponent lands before you do on the opposite side, keep the Seatbelt tight to prevent Reverse Side Control, and run your feet away from his guard. When you can't run any further because you'll lose your grip, belly-down and pick your opponent's back up off the mat, sitting him up in a Seated Position. Throw your hook in on the Over-Side and establish the Back-Guard Control Position.
