2 Part Lesson — Marcelo demonstrates the Ankle Pick against Right-Lead and Left-Lead Stances: [I] If your opponent is preventing you from gaining upper body control, i.e. avoiding grips on his hands, sleeves, or collar -try reaching for his skirt/belt first before reaching up for his collar. You can use a lower attack to distract your opponent from your desired control. Your grip on his Collar/Lapel will be limited, so it is best to immediately progress to your takedown; drop down and snatch up his foot for and Ankle Pick. Be sure to pass his leg to the outside to avoid being placed inside Guard. [II] If your opponent faces you in an Open Stance (as opposed to Closed with matching leads) simply drop down and pick the cross-side, near ankle. Again, remember to pass his leg to the outside of your descent to avoid danger.
