3 Part Lesson — Marcelo shows us how to take the Back when his opponent avoids the 1LX Guard: [I] Gain double underhooks and elevate your opponent into the air, turning him to the side for the 1LX or X-Guard. If the opponent crosses his legs too tightly for you to pry them apart, spin underneath his feet and spread your legs to split his apart. Immediately look to grab his belt and/or collar to climb up onto his hips or to insert your Crab Ride hooks for control. Rise up and over his legs to take the Back with Seatbelt Control. [II] If your opponent tries to apply a Toehold before you can hide your feet with the Crab Ride, lean hard to the side of the lock and reel in his exposed back before he can complete his attack. [III] It is important to contract your leg and body when he tries for the footlock and to not extend yourself away from the danger.
