2 Part Lesson — Marcelo talks about the Back-Hooks; Body Triangle vs Arm Trap: [I] If you're short on time, either to defend yourself or win a competition, the Arm Trap is the ideal strategy for increasing your chance to finish with a choke. The Body Triangle will help you stabilize the Back Mount position, but what you trade off is the 2on1 advantage to work toward the strangle. Whether on the Weakside or Strongside, you can isolate the opponent's arm with your top hook, allowing you to work two hands against his neck and remaining hand. If you have all the time in the world to wait for a finish and exhaust your opponent, as well as the leg length and hip flexibility to hold on the Body Triangle, it is a valid option. However if you are pressed for time, which can certainly be the case in a real-life self defense situation, you cannot waste your time on the ground waiting for your opponent to make a mistake. It is best to proactively seek the finish and end the fight as soon as possible. [II] When fighting against the single defending hand, use your choking hand to grab the wrist. Your other hand can now lift the forehead and give you room to race for the neck with a headstart. This applies to either side of the Back/Rear Mount.
