3 Part Lesson — Marcelo answers counters to his Cross Arm & Belt Control Sweep from Butterfly: [I] Gain 2on1 Control and use it to cross your opponent's arm, giving you access to his side and a grip on his belt and/or jacket. Tuck your head underneath the opponent's and utilize your hooks to sweep him over in the direction of his compromised arm. [II] If the opponent grabs your lapel to help avoid the sweep, close the distance and pummel an Underhook for a Hook Sweep. If your opponent widens his base to prevent the sweep, place your foot on his knee and push out his leg to help him fall over. If you cannot readily reach his leg because it is higher up your side, start kicking low on his shin before stepping on his thigh. [III] If your opponent shifts his weight far from the crossed arm, try collapsing his arm into his side for a Hook Sweep. If you encounter difficulty in this attempt, immediately switch for a Hook Sweep in the opposite direction with an Underhook.
