Reverse-Pin to Reverse Scarf-Hold
Marcelo & Jon talk about how to successfully counter Back Control from Turtle with specific grips, weight redistribution, and timely bodily adjustments in position. The "Reverse-Lock" (a.k. Ura-Gatame, Inverted Hold-Down, Peterson, et al.) is a polarizing form pinning technique practiced in Judo & Jujutsu, as well as other various styles of Wrestling. Competitively, where pinning an opponent's back on the mat is considered a valid act towards sudden victory, this technique can still prove useful in the context of submission grappling, despite its apparent configuration of having your back 'taken' by or exposed to your the opponent. Marcelo warns Jon not to treat this technique as something to be sought after; it is merely a way to recover from a bad position and possibly come up on top in good position. The risk of exposing your neck in a choke or your arm for a lock is far too great to simply take this position for granted. However, if you do find yourself in need of an escape or reversal from the Turtle Position (All-Fours, Quarter-Position, Quad-Pod, Belly-Down, Pancake-Guard, et al.), and your opponent hesitates in finding the correct timing, weight, and energy in response, this transition from the "Reverse-Lock" (a.k.a. Judo's Ura-Gatame) into the "Reverse Scarf-Hold" (Judo's Ushiro-Gesa-Gatame) may merit some considerable investigation.
