Sprawl vs Deep Half Entry → Over Under Pass → Turning Pass
2 Part Lesson — Marcelo uses a Sumo-esque technique to avert Deep Half: [I] Sprawl your leg back when your opponent reaches for your outside leg in Half Guard for a transition to the Deep Half Guard. The key to pummeling back either an Underhook or Reverse Underhook is to make space without receding away from the position. Alternate posts on his or her shoulder until you can make space under the arm; take whichever Underhook (Orthodox or Reverse) is available with your free hand. If you gain a normal Farside Underhook against the Half Guard, execute the Over/Under Pass. [II] If you pummel a Reverse Underhook, initiate the Turning Pass; establish the top position after clearing your leg by transitioning to the North/South Position. Whenever you pass without Head Control, you must stabilize from the North/South.
